Camera Equipment Information
This is a very sensitive topic for many wedding photographers. Some believe it is important and other's believe it is something the client shouldn't have to worry about. Ask yourself this though. You are paying a lot of money for a person to photograph your wedding. Do you not have the right to know what kind of tools this person has at their disposal. Sad as it is to say, the quality of the Camera and Lenses a photographer uses will effect the quality of photographs you receive in one way or another.
Camera Bodies
Obviously the first and most important thing any photographer should have are cameras. Whenever you hire a wedding professional you should inquire to make sure they own at LEAST two camera bodies of a professional nature. I really can't stress that enough. Personally I currently use a Nikon D3x and a Nikon D3s to photograph weddings for my cliental.
These two cameras represent any wedding photographer's dream combination as they provide the ultimate flexibility especially when it comes to weddings where everything is rapidly changing at the blink of an eye. The Nikon D3x specifically is a high resolution (24.5 megapixel) camera that I primarily use for formal portraits and for some photos during the ceremony. This will ensure that you get extremely large photographs from the vast majority of your formal pictures. I have printed photos 24"x36" and larger with this camera just to put some perspective on how large the photos are.
The Nikon D3s is a world renound 12 megapixel camera. It is one of the best low light cameras ever commercially made. This camera is used throughout the day specifically for ceremonies as the camera can work in extreme low light situations without the necessity of flash. This is extremely important for church weddings and even more so weddings inside many orthodox churches and cathedrals where flash is prohibited. In any even both cameras are using a great deal throughout your wedding day to achieve the best result possible.
Lenses & Other Equipment
I prefer to use the highest quality lenses made available to me through Nikon to get the sharpest and most accurate pictures possible. The two lenses that I use most throughout the wedding day are a 24-70mm F2.8 and 70-200mm VRII F2.8 lens. It may seem like a lot of jibberish to the average couple getting married however these two lenses in particular are designed to create sharp picture perfect photos. More so the lenses are known as "FAST" lenses which means they excel in low light conditions which can provide the photographer a bit of an advantage when photographing a wedding in a dim light church.
I also use a variety of other filters, telephoto extenders, speedlights (flash strobes) and just about anything I can think that I might physically need to make your wedding what it should be.
Professional Lighting
|
One of the most important pieces of equipment that I utilize at every single wedding I photograph is portable studio lighting. Studio lights quite frankly allow a photographer to create dramatic effects in an extremely wide variety of settings. Whether it is super bright and sunny outside or pitch black at midnight I can create near perfect lighting conditions that will make your photos look and feel simply amazing!
I do also utilize a variety of lens filters, special flash diffusers and light meters to help me create different effects. If you do have any questions regarding any of the equipment I use please feel free to ask. It is important when hiring a photographer to ensure they have the right equipment. A good photographer will invest a lot into their own company just as you are investing a lot into the photographer you select to photograph your wedding... |
